Contemporary Perfection

The contemporary interior style is current, modern, and constantly evolving. The fluidity of contemporary interior design is particularly exciting – what is considered a contemporary interior now will likely change over the course of the twenty-first century. Today, contemporary interiors feature clean, unadorned spaces. Furniture tends to show exposed legs to create a feeling of space. Metals and glass are popular contemporary materials and intricate details are kept to a minimum.

The Black & White Effect!

Black and white is a timeless color combo that you can never be wrong, both in terms of outfit combinations and interior designs. Adding black and white into your home, will give the space a modern, elegant and sophisticated look, and of course there are so many different ways to add these colors. The rule is not to over use one of these colors, but to keep a balance between them. For instance if you choose a white wall, then the curtains can be black. Or if the sofa or the bed is black then maybe you can put some white carpet.

And when decorating your kitchen with these colors, you can opt for some black kitchen cabinets and kitchen island, white walls and white chairs next to the kitchen island. And for the bathroom design, you can either opt for some black and white tiles or you can choose some white walls and flooring and keep the rest of the design in black. Scroll down now to see the black and white interior designs we have chosen for you today and choose how you will add this timeless color combo into your lovely home. Enjoy!

EXPERT ADVICE

“CONTEMPORARY DECORATING, AT ITS BEST, IS ALL ABOUT CLEAN-LINED COMFORT. THOSE WHO LOVE THIS STYLE UNDERSTAND THAT A HOME CAN BE BOTH PRACTICAL AND BEAUTIFUL. THAT SAID, CONTEMPORARY SPACES CAN FEEL STARK AND IMPERSONAL IF YOU’RE NOT CAREFUL. BALANCE SQUARE CORNERS AND RIGHT ANGLES WITH CURVED EDGES AND MAXIMIZE COSINESS WITH PLUSH TEXTURES, LIKE VELVET & SOFT LINEN. I LIKE TO INCLUDE AT LEAST ONE ANTIQUE OR VINTAGE PIECE OF FURNITURE IN AN OTHERWISE CONTEMPORARY ROOM TO LEND IT A SENSE OF HISTORY AND TIMELESSNESS.”

A Modern & Contemporary Difference !

This question has come up time and time again. So I thought I should clarify once and for all. Modern and Contemporary in interior design are not one in the same, as many people might think. Modern design refers to a period of time, it is a design style that was created in the 1920′s – 1950′s. It doesn’t change, it is a defined style, and will remain such for ever. Contemporary design is ever changing. It is of the moment. Contemporary design is a living, breathing entity (ok, not really, no need to be afraid of it).

Let us explain; the term “Modern” in interior design really refers to “Mid Century Modern”. It is recognizable by it’s clean, unadorned interiors. Use of natural materials such as wood, leather, teak and linen are prominent. Molded plywood and plastic is very popular in modern furniture, as well as polished metal. Furniture is very open and raised off the floor allowing for an airy feeling. Walls are often white adding to the expansive feeling. Modern interiors generally have bare floors and if area rugs are used, they are typically wool, and neutral in color. Hints of color were used in moderation. We generally refer to modern interiors as retro these days. Here are some examples of Modern Interior Design:
